Wildcats, it's time to get your heads back in the game.
Disney Channel announced Tuesday that a fourth High School Musical film is in the works.
The movie will focus once more on the East High Wildcats while also introducing fans to their rivals, the West High Knights. It will also feature a whole new class, departing from the storylines of Troy, Gabrielle, Sharpay and the gang.
"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA," says Disney Channel President Gary Marsh. "It embodies all that we stand for."
Here's to the start of something new.
Peter Barsocchini, who penned the original films, is returning to write the new script, along with Dan Berendsen from Hannah Montana: The Movie.
Casting for the film will begin soon, but Disney has yet to announce a release date.
The original film premiered a decade ago, launching the careers of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale. And let's not forget, it was also responsible for releasing one of the catchiest soundtracks in musical history -- quickly turning the franchise into a worldwide phenomenon.
