Slack, the popular messaging platform for workplaces, appeared to be down for a number of users on Wednesday.

Numerous employees at Mashable, including this writer, weren't able to access Slack on desktop, instead receiving a server error message.

The issue appeared to be pretty widespread. Slack's own status website showed issues with messaging and connectivity, among other features. Down Detector showed a sharp spike in reports of problems with Slack, starting after 10:10 a.m. ET. (Full disclosure: Down Detector is owned by the same parent company as Mashable.)

There were also lots of posts online about Slack being down.

It's not clear when Slack will be back in working order. The company said in a statement to Mashable that it was working on resolving the issue.

Slack wrote: "Our teams are aware and are investigating the issue. For the latest updates, please keep an eye on status.slack.com."
