Right before Beyonce and Coldplay take the stage for Pepsi's Super Bowl halftime show this Sunday, Janelle Monáe will kick off the party with a musical journey through time.

The genre-bending musician is the star of a 30-second Pepsi commercial called "Joy of Music" that is set to air moments ahead of the halftime concert.

From jukebox rock 'n' roll to 80's dance jams, Monáe shuffles and struts her way through the decades right up to the present day.

The commercial, created by The Marketing Arm and directed by Samuel Bayer, marks Monáe's first appearance for the soda brand, and she caps it off with a new Pepsi jingle that she performs. It's also the first Pepsi Super Bowl commercial to feature a big-name celebrity since 2013's ad featuring Beyonce.

Monáe is one of many celebrities who will be featured in the commercial breaks of the Super Bowl this year in what will be an especially star-packed lineup of ads.
