Moana will feature Disney's first Polynesian princess, so you'd hope the film remains true to the cultures of Polynesia, both on and off the screen.

For the premiere, Kiwi fashion designer Kiri Nathan adhered to Kawa and Tikanga (protocols of Māori customs and ethics) when creating a dress for the voice actor playing Moana, Auli’i Cravalho.

A cobalt blue gown, it was inspired by the waves of the ocean and elements from Polynesian traditional design.

In this video, Nathan and Cravalho explain each intricate design detail -- an appropriate and sartorially flawless homage to Māori culture.
