Ford issues warning to EV owners about Tesla’s supercharger adapters

Stop using that adapter!

If you own a Ford electric vehicle, avoid Tesla superchargers immediately.

According to a Ford service bulletin spotted by InsideEVs, Ford EV owners should cease using the company-provided adapter for Tesla superchargers ASAP. You might expect to hear that the problem is on Tesla's end, but actually, it's not. Ford issued adapters to its EV customers that would allow them to use Tesla's supercharger network and is now recalling them because they can potentially have negative effects on charging speeds and can damage charging ports.

Ford's notice confirmed that the company will send new, presumably risk-free adapters to EV owners in the near future. Ideally that process won't take very long and everyone can forget about this in short order because losing access to Tesla's expansive charging network seems mightily inconvenient.

Tesla's supercharger network hasn't been as useful to non-Tesla owners as they would probably like because competing EV manufacturers need to make adapters for their cars. Ford's move to quickly issue adapters to its customers may have felt like a godsend in comparison, but now, those superchargers aren't useful for probably at least a couple of days.
