There's been so much stuff going on in the world lately that you may not have had a chance to read much about the Brazilian election yet.

As John Oliver breaks down in the video above, though, the situation is pretty grim. Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro just won the first round of voting in the presidential election with 46% of the vote, and will go head-to-head for a shot at the presidency on 28th Oct. Bolsonaro has previously made a number of homophobic and misogynistic comments.

"Brazil, please, look," Oliver says at the end of the clip. "I realise that you are disgusted with your politics at the moment, and you are not inspired by any of the alternatives, but anything is better than Bolsonaro."
