Forget the rom-coms. Jennifer Lopez is a ruthless assassin trying to save her daughter in The Mother

Forced into hiding after a failed mission, the military-trained mama needs to return to the field after her daughter (Lucy Paez) is kidnapped by dangerous men. The catch? She's been forcibly estranged from her daughter since her birth.

In The Mother's trailer, Lopez sweeps through every hellish obstacle to save her child, all while getting to know the kid she never got the chance to raise.

Niki Caro, who helmed Whale Rider and the live-action Mulan, directs The Mother, which also boasts appearances by Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael García Bernal.

The Mother premieres on Netflix May 12
